Why Women

Women make up an overwhelming minority in the aerospace industry, whether as astronauts or executives.

  • Out of the 566 people who have traveled to space, 65 of them or about 11.5% were women.

  • According to a study done by Aviation Week, only 24% of aerospace employees are women.

  • Women make up only about a third of NASA’s workforce. They comprise just 28 percent of senior executive leadership positions and are only 16 percent of senior scientific employees, according to a survey done by the agency.

Our goal is to change these statistics.

"Human spaceflight cannot develop any further without

the

active participation of women."

— cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova

Valentina made history as the first woman in space. In 1963, she piloted the Vostok 6 spacecraft around Earth, alone, orbiting our planet for 48 hours.

Just a few of the women who have influenced the space industry.
