Why Women
Women make up an overwhelming minority in the aerospace industry, whether as astronauts or executives.
Out of the 566 people who have traveled to space, 65 of them or about 11.5% were women.
According to a study done by Aviation Week, only 24% of aerospace employees are women.
Women make up only about a third of NASA’s workforce. They comprise just 28 percent of senior executive leadership positions and are only 16 percent of senior scientific employees, according to a survey done by the agency.
Our goal is to change these statistics.
"Human spaceflight cannot develop any further without
the
active participation of women."
— cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova
Valentina made history as the first woman in space. In 1963, she piloted the Vostok 6 spacecraft around Earth, alone, orbiting our planet for 48 hours.
Just a few of the women who have influenced the space industry.
